This is a call out to anyone in the West Fife area who would be interested in getting involved in setting up a community digital fabrication studio in Dunfermline or surrounding area. The premise will be similar to a fablab http://www.fabfoundation.org/ and makerspace http://makerspace.com/ its purpose is to educate local people about new open source technology like 3D printing.
I feel Dunfermline is in need of this and would help place a sense of resilience in our community for a better future through education about emerging technologies in open source hardware & manufacturing, open source software and working together sharing ideas for everyone’s benefit. We owe it to ourselves and our children to create a resilient community.
The documentary below is from this years Fab10 it gives a good outline of what this fablab community is capable of.
I’m basically looking for seed investment of up to £2500 or 10.5btc (current bitcoin exchange rate) to buy capital equipment which will consist of 2x Printrbot Metal 3Dprinters
and 2x laptops to run the software and a selection of printer materials. The basic plan is to run 1on1 workshops on 3D modelling software and 3Dprinting.

After a summer break and a focus on the Scottish independence campaign i am back. 🙂
A few things have changed for Digable Fabrication project. I will be looking to start a new project after Christmas. Looking to start up a micro community digital fabrication studio so stay tuned folks.
So Digable Fabrication might be changing name in the near future.
Had a great weekend taking part in Dunfermlines first ever bitcoin event. Everyone learned a little (Bit) about how the system works and how the crypto-currency technology is here to stay. The cats out the bag, bitcoin cant be uninvented. With good guidance by good people, the use of these technologies will work towards the good of all. As Carl Sagan put it; “We are one planet”.
Huge thanks to Mick @RogueTruther, Maz @theWeeSpaceCafe and the Astro-team from the Dunfermline Astronomers Association. https://www.facebook.com/Dunfermlineastronomers
Very well done to all involved!
As part of the event we introduced people to the Scotcoin project.
Scotcoin has burst onto the crypto scene and we are supporting.
3Dprinting for Scotcoin is coming real soon…. 🙂
Peace out everyone.
Hi all, we are pleased to be helping out with the bitcoin discussion meetup and mining workshop, Friday the 28th of February @ The Chambers, Chalmers Street, Dunfermline.
This is a free event for our local community of Dunfermline and surrounding area to connect and have a talk about the Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, open peer-to-peer networks and what this technology can do for the community.
Of course there will be some 3D Printing going on. 😉
There will be a workshop on how the mining part of the Bitcoin works and a short film about the history of money.

Earlier this week we managed to get the beast printing its first calibration cube. YAAAY!! \o/
Description by Techzone: “This 3d Printer is based upon the RepRap Mendel, but has been adapted and “up-sized” considerably! Officially, this kit would be considered a RepStrap (rather than a RepRap), since the parts are not printed on another 3d printer. While designing this printer, we implimented a FEW of the part saving ideas used on the RepRap Prusa (we will be releasing a Prusa kit in the coming months, but it is not our favorite design).
The print area on this printer is aproximately 12″ (305mm) X 18″ (460mm) X 11″ (280mm) That is a whopping print volume of 2.376 cubic inches or more than 39,000 cubic centimeters!”
Minitronics is the latest development of ReprapWorld.com. It’s designed to be an easy to use, compact and smart solution to fit 90% of the 3D-printers. We used this after we found our Gen 3 mirco controller board had a fault.
So yeah, things are moving along just nicely.
Thanks for popping by 😉

Hi peeps, here is some pics of a little 3D printed bitcoin keyring. Printed on a printrbot jr with gold filament. 😉
More to become available soon.
Please help us by donating a few satoshi. 😉
Hello and happy new year everyone! 🙂
The Digable Fabrication new year resolution 2014 is to trade crypto currencies in exchange for 3d prints.
3D Printing is decentralized production and Bitcoin is decentralized money.
Looking forward to joining in with the crypto currency community.
